PJM Applications Deliberately Delayed by the MoD
Did you know that thousands of applications were, until two weeks ago, stacked up in a civil servant's office - and many had been there for months? Only after considerable pressure from various quarters, including us, the first batch has at last been sent to the Malaysian High Commission.
That means that you have been waiting anxiously for your medal but it had not got past those civil servants in the MoD who simply do not want the PJM to happen and are stubbornly doing all they can to delay the medal’s arrival.
Some of those forms were submitted four months ago!
We are being treated with contempt because we had the audacity to serve our country and to serve Malaysia.

Ye Gods, surely not?
Our very own Mod sitting on applications. No, that would never happen, would it?
After all, weren't they the same mob who were behind us, supporting us in our campaigns in the jungles etc... of Malaysia and Brunei during "confrontasi"?
Nah......they wouldn't do that, would they?

14th June (4 1/2 months after the Ministerial Statement!) ... I am now told that the 'thousands' of applications that had been knowingly stacked up in a civil servant's office in Whitehall have now been sent to the Malaysian High Commission.
So the pressure from us and others eventually told ... this confirms that you can make a difference if you persevere.
Barry
PS The MoD will try and tell you that the delay arose because they were waiting for for the eligibility criteria. Are they really trying to sell you on the idea that they accepted a medal but didn't know what the devil they were accepting and for whom and for when and for why? ... Err, I don't think so. Anyway, we have a copy of the MoD web page from 31st January that clearly establishes that they did know what they were doing.

Hmmmm! I now begin to wonder about three things.
Did "they" or he, the civil servant, keep a record of all the names that have been forwarded to the HCM?
Is it open for viewing, this List?
Were any names, "inadvertantely" left of the list"?

Email from Richard Coney, MoD
He is saying that the MoD are not sitting on any applications?
Apologies for the delay in responding.
I cannot say how many applications have been received by the MOD, but several thousand.
All the applications that have been stamped by an appropriate veterans’ organisation have been passed to the Malaysian High Commission in London for action.
Applications that were not verified in the agreed way were returned to the organisation that sent them for the appropriate stamp to be applied.
As you will probably realise, the majority of applications were sent by Mr Fred Burden, the Membership Secretary of the National Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association.
The MOD does not currently hold any applications for the PJM, though small quantities arrive each day. Now that we have a contact at the High Commission they will be sent on as we receive them.
