URGENT
I received the following information this afternoon (14/01/11) please contact your MP’s to make representation to this review on your behalf.
Should you wish to also write to this review board please keep it polite, you are mainly dealing with Civil Servants who do not understand our NAAFI humour and it can be misunderstood.
Thank you for your assistance.
The review of rules governing the award of medals is being conducted by the Ministry of Defence. This review will report to the Minister for Defence Personnel Welfare and Veterans, Andrew Robathan MP, who is a former Serving Officer, and work is now underway. Senior Military Officers are contributing to the review and the Chiefs of Staff will also be consulted. The review will consider military medallic recognition and the rules and processes that apply to the introduction of military medals and aims to report its conclusions in the near future.
Should you wish to submit any additional information that would be of use to the review, please send this to

Medal Review.
Well done Paul for getting this information.
Everyone should try and get their MP to represent them and the PJM on this medals review. We still don't know if includes foreign awards and decorations but hope to have this information soon.
We all know that the rules and principles on the acceptance and wear of medals are inconsistent with no great thought being given to the required dignity and freedom of British veterans when rules were applied. We can only hope that this will now be changed.

This is my comment.
As long as a foreign medal has been accepted a civilian should be allowed to wear such a medal on all occasions without showing discourtesy to HM the Queen.

Dear Paul
The review will also look at foreign awards to veterans.
The MOD will be able to let you have details of who else will be consulted/involved.
