Annual day to Honour UK Veterans

Former Servicemen and Women are to be Honoured on the 26th June every year at a series of ceremonies across the UK.

Former soldiers, air crews and sailors will be presented with medals at local events on National Veterans Day.
Gordon Brown who announced the plans for the annual events said the aim was to ensure the contribution of veterans was never forgotten.

However the day will not become a National Holiday.


DOES THE 5 YEAR RULE STILL STAND?
remember lads, when we were holding the line against the Warsaw pact countries and those nasties who would do our GREAT country harm.... Tony B.Liar and his cronies were swanning about wearing their CND badges and undermining the legitimate rule of LAW upon which our country was founded.

How can Malay Borneo Veterans be presented with the PJM medal if they are not allowed to wear it.?

Yes, dear Guest, Her Majesty will NOT BE AMUSED when she finds out (they will be too scared to tell her) that her troops who fought for her and her country in days gone by are being treated in such a shameful and discriminatory manner. We fought for the PJM and we earned it and we have the right to wear - they may try but this they cannot take from us.

In answer to Stewart McBride (Tin Gongs) and George F (moving the goalposts) let me once again quote The Rules (PartII).

Permission. Rule 5.

Permission to wear a foreign award, if granted, will either

unrestricted - allowing the award to be worn on any occasion, or

restricted - allowing the award to be worn only on particular occasions associated with the foreign state that conferred it.

NOW, this says nothing whatsoever, about permission only being given to wear an award 'FORMALLY' as in the case of the PJM so yes, they have not acted lawfully in that the rules have been amended and changed without as much as 'by your leave'.

Rule 6 - The grant of permission, whether unrestricted or restricted, will be conveyed BY LETTER to the UK Citizen concerned from the Sovereign's Private Secretary.

Does this not suggest that these rules were never intended for a medal such as the PJM.

Also, Sir Robert Javrin KCB KCVO, Private Secretary to the Sovereign, is going to be very busy sending us all a letter so let us all now ask him for our letter.

No doubt the goalpost will be changed again and the rules used in whatever way they wish them to be used. This is not justice and fair government it is Dictatorship.

They've completely confused themselves because they allowed this keepsake (nobody should get involved - no permissions required to wear a baubel) to get into the Imperial Honours System. Actually, once they had passed the point of being able to say "Thanks, but no thanks" at the very start, they had no alternative but to try and apply the Foreign Decorations Rules because the Malaysians made it a stipulation that the medal had to be OK'd by the appropriate Government.

Rule 5: does not apply because the PJM is, at present, a keepsake and therefore is not covered by any of the qualifications with any of the Rules.

Rule 6: Correct. George has a letter which is likely to be used. It accompanies the medal (from the MOD, oddly - one is told this is down to the FO, if I recall correctly), and the letter says - Here it is, but don't you dare wear it.
