Gurkhas do not have the Queen's Permission BUT ...
Gurkhas do not have the Queen's permission to wear the PJM but:
1. They won a VC and
2. during Confrontation they suffered more than twice the number killed in action than the total suffered by the rest of the forces involved, and
3. they have miserable pension rights!
Did you know that if you observed just one minute's silence for each Gurkha killed during WW2 ... you'd be silent for more than two weeks.
Isn't it time that we treated Gurkha soldiers with at least as much respect as we do celebs who reap in honours on honours?
We say our Gurkha comrades in arms should be allowed to wear the PJM in line with other Commonwealth nations - with the Queen's permission!
Do you agree?
Barry

I will place this here for accuracy as I know things get changed
PJM Medal. Her Majesty the Queen has graciously approved the award by the Malaysian Government of the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJ M) medal to all those of HM Forces who served for 90 days or more in Malaysia from 31 Aug 1957 to 12 Aug 1966 or in Singapore from 31 Aug, 1957 to Aug 1965. How and when this medal may be worn has not yet been published but the qualifications for it may be read at Click Here and the Application Form at Click Here .

That might very well be my only hope of wearing one...the one the MoD mailed to me last week was 'nicked' out of the envelope long before the package was delivered to me...Still, I got a nice 'Compliments of the Under Sec'y for Defence' slip...guess I'll have to make do with pasting that in my family album?

Jock
I'm much saddened to hear this news, if it is the UK side of the pond then that is shameful.
This is one thing that I can think of that this Government has got right in honouring its Veterans, it is issuing of The Veterans Badge in a very nice presentation case. Perhaps if you forward an email to The Vets Agency they surely will sort out another one for you.
Strange really when you think of it that this has been awarded to us in my case 37 years after leaving the Mob! Good job the 5 year rule didn't apply to this!

Well John....what can a feller do?....I did send an e-mail off to MoD telling them of the circumstances, but so far no response...possibly 'one to a customer' eh?....and given my previous experience who's to say the same fate might befall any and all that they choose to send....until I read your post I was unaware that the badge in question was contained within a presentation case...I just hope the individual that swiped it enjoys the wearing of it...whether he is entitled or not!
Anyway, don't forget, that being a British Veteran at least I'm well accustomed to managing disappointment!

Seems a little bit odd.Veterans lapel badge goes missing in the post and e-bay have them up for auction.I think the Royal Mail ought to look into that .

Perhaps, since I was the loser of the Veterans Badge...and perhaps, just because I am a died in the wool old cynic...but, did you ever think that the same method of delivery might be employed to get your PJM to you i.e. the Mail (Royal or otherwise!)...in which case there may very well also be LOTS of PJM's for sale on EBay???
