The Pingat Jasa Malaysia Poem
by Arthur Rambart-Spicer
with apologies to Longfellow's Hiawatha

In their Whitehall Ivory Tower
Civil Servants, cringe and cower
They are stirring up much trouble
About a 'gong' that they call 'double'

Called it 'trinket', of not much worth
That celebrated a Federation birth
Do we deserve, I should say so
Will we wear it, I should coco

Amid the lies and 'double' dealing
One gets the strangest feeling
I know that it might sound a bore
But haven't we been here before?

Oh! (un)civil servant, read our letter
Try to change things for the better
We know that this will make you groan
We even sent them to 'our Tone'

Just when we're feeling rejected
Something happened, unexpected
Your edict rained down from above
'We're thinking of our 'Honours' love

Some words to HM Queen imparted
Lied to her, and then departed
An 'arrangement' that they think is 'fair'
'You can have mate, but not to wear'

The aftermath of this mess still lingers
In 'Salute', we raise two fingers
'Oh! says us, we'll create a stink
And bollocks, if that's what you think'

It's not that we are natural rebels
Given to chaos, contempt and revels
We all chant, and this will slay yer
'GIVE US OUR PINGAT JASA MALAYSIA'

In perpetual memory of those that never came home

A BRILLIANT piece of poetry that says it all. Worthy of Tennyson, himself and as for Hiawatha, well, he won his feathers and was allowed to wear them so I feel sure that he's with us all the way and beating his war drums in `The Happy Hunting Grounds!' In support.

Thanks you guys for your kind words.

You do realise that in heart surgery, politicians and civil servant's hearts are the most saught after for transplant puposes....it's because they have had very little use.

Yours Aye

Arthur
