MESSAGE FROM
MALAYAN VETERANS OF THE KING’S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS TO HIS MAJESTY THE YANG di-PERTUAN AGONG

May it please Your Majesty that some two hundred and fifty Veterans of The King’s Own Scottish Borderers who served in Malaya during the Emergency from 1955 to 1958, who are gathered together in Dumfries, Scotland, this evening, 6th March 2008, in comradeship and close fellowship to celebrate and remember their operational service in your wonderful country, all send Your Majesty our good wishes on this special occasion, remembering particularly all those who lost their lives during the campaign. We salute Your Majesty and Malaysia.

MESSAGE FROM HIS MAJESTY THE YANG DI-PERTUAN AGONG AND MEMBERS OF THE 5th BATTALION, ROYAL MALAY REGIMENT AND ALL MALAYSIANS TO THE MALAYAN VETERANS OF THE KING’S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS

Malaysians of all ages and races were very honoured and delighted to receive your good wishes. It brings back the memories of hardships, honours and sacrifices suffered by the members of The King’s Own Scottish Borderers who fought for our freedom and independence during the Malayan Emergency. May these memories last forever and be learned by a new generation that the value of independence is priceless.

We will never forget your sacrifices to make us what we are now. Malaysia is now prosperous and harmony has been made possible by your sacrifices. We welcome you all to our country, to share and feel what you have fought for. The friendship and affiliation between us should last forever, just as the 5th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment still holds to the standards and traditions nurtured by you. This does not only mark our affiliation, but is also recognition of your sacrifices. For those who gave their lives may they be in the blessing of the Almighty Lord.

We very much look forward to having you all here again, like your visit in 2006 and hope that all Veterans and Borderers have a wonderful evening together in Scotland. Thank you.

MESSAGE FROM THE 5th BATTALION, THE ROYAL MALAY REGIMENT

On behalf of the 5th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment, we would like to extend our best wishes to all Veterans of The King’s Own Scottish Borderers who will be attending the special dinner in Dumfries, Scotland on 6th March 2008. It is indeed an honour to be affiliated to the King’s Own Scottish Borderers and we were deeply touched by your visit to my Battalion in 2006. We are always mindful of the King’s Own Scottish Borderers’ contribution during the formation of this battalion in the early days. Strong foundations were laid down by The King’s Own Scottish Borderers and indeed these fine Regimental qualities have enabled this battalion to progress and draw strength from time to time.

My battalion always looks forward to welcoming back to our country those who contributed to its evolution. I hope you all have a wonderful evening together in Scotland.

AHMAD FAREED ARIFFIN
Lieutenant Colonel
