Is the End in Sight?
We have been informed that the Foreign Office or Cabinet Office will soon issue a reply to our Rebuttal of the discredited Ministerial Statement and our recent Update to that Rebuttal, both of which demolish their spurious arguments for denying us the right to wear the PJM.
Their reply will be promulgated some time between now and the end of November.
We will then know whether our fight for British citizens to have the right to wear the PJM has been successful.
We know that the current decision is wrong. Support for our case continues to grow, and the many distinguished people who have added their names and their contributions all know it's wrong.
But the civil servants have another agenda.
*** With the end in sight, we must not ease off - we need to keep up the pressure.
*** We need your support now more than ever before - we need you to keep lobbying. Keep At'Em!
Please continue to send your views and questions to the civil servants who, to date, have denied British citizens the right to wear their medal. Keep writing to your MP. And don't forget the media.
We have less than six weeks.
Thank you.

Well I for one keep beavering away, and will not give up!
What is the likely outcome of all this? Well in a few short weeks we will find out, what will be the HD decision
a> reverse their decision and give us UNRESTRICTED wear, which is the most obvious face saving decision they can make
or
b> Give us RESTRICTED wear, well that just will not do, we will not allow this, the press/media/TV will go 'bananas' if they try this one
or
c> They can refuse to review their decision, their choice because the same applies in b> above
They (HD Committee) chose the hard way to do this
The day cometh.............

Is The End In Sight
We could do with a few more replies to this one, on this Forum. That will also help our "Fight for the Right". Just a couple of lines will do. We know the Suits read what we say here, so its just another way of letting them know....They make the wrong decision.....Then The Fight Goes On....And On....And On. Considering the amount of news with regard to our present Armed Forces..Manpower shortages....Kit shortages...Iraq etc..I would have thought this Government would not want this Fight on their Hands any longer than was necessary....
P.S. When We Win...What's Our Next Project Going To Be.....????

Indeed we could, Terry.
Matters have reached a critical stage.
A November result - The suits have chosen badly. November contains Remembrance Day when PJMers would wish to wear their medal. Unless they produce a rabbit out of the hat, any second rejection of our right to wear the PJM is going to look even more mean-spirited, particularly if announced before Nov 11th.
But they seem to be intent on doing exactly that some time in November.
However, if Derek Twigg comes on board then we will have support from the last three Veterans Ministers. That is probably unprecedented and may be the lever from the MoD that we need.
The FCO has our Petition to HM The Queen. If they reject it, they are putting words in the mouth of The Queen ... words that underline the discrimination as between Commonwealth countries, UK citizens, and individuals within the same Regiment serving at the same time.
If the Cabinet Office (which includes the HD Committee) votes against us, they will be saying that the Queen is happy for Rules to be concocted and applied retrospectively just so She can be asked to stop her single-nationality British citizens from ever wearing the PJM with honour.
And all that in the context of the current news about under-funded and under-'man'ned British forces fighting in under-assessed operations that are undermining other countries.
This whole matter is deeply worrying. It demonstrates that British civil servants have absolutely no understanding of what the real world is all about.
And for those reasons I am not sitting on the edge of my seat waiting their decision. But you never know ... Members of the HD Committee may rely upon their own personal integrity to produce a just reversal of the discredited decision and thus bail out the suits or, more likely, MPs and Mrs Beckett in particular, may do it for them.

Eloquently put, Sir.
And as pertinent and as interesting as always.
Got to the end and spotted only one 'telling mistake'. Hope you don't mind, but I amended it for you.
All the best - and thanks for your continuing support.

I`ll keep on at`em as it`s now or never, I`ll bet all those richard craniums who are trying to stop this were all in short trousers ord gym nickers and have`nt a clue how all the service men fought and suffered and deserve to wear this medal with pride. The medal the British Government awarded did not get issued to all those that served, I know they did`nt give me one.

I have taken two of these items from 'The end is in sight'. and posted them on two different web sites, asking for help and support.
One a closed BB on The Old Oak tree (TOOT) site for Ex Life Guards, and the other the BB of the Household Cavalry.
That site is well read and open to public eyes.
Keith.

Mike,
That's exactly right. We need to press our case before they finish their deliberations.

Great stuff, Keith.
Our support continues to grow (*) - but only as a result of people like you spreading the 'gospel'.
Barry
PS (*) I should have added that the first half of October has been our busiest period ever on the Fight4thePJM web site in terms of visits.

What shall we do next?
Ref a letter,Sunday 15th Oct, on the NMBVA site asking why pre 1957 veterans were not awarded the Independence gong which was seemingly offered to our government by the new Malaysian Government.
A near neighbour of mine, now well into his seventies, who served in Malaya in the very early 50s was very miffed when he found that he did not qualify for the PJM. This morning I showed him how to log on to the NMBVA web on his brand new computer...and read the letter. He was insensed by what it implied.
Like many of us he was not an infantry soldier but belonged to the Vetinary Corps. He dealt with horses and mules and was seconded to the Malay Scouts who needed mules for "deep penetration ops." As well as keeping his animals in good fettle he also had need of his rifle in firefights. He has the GSM with clasp but feels that if we who came later can qualify for the PJM he and his contemporaries should also be allowed to be thanked....as was originally intended by the new Malaysia.
If, as has been suggested in today's emails, there is going to be a "queue" there can be only one precedence for what to do next. We PJMers will get our gong, to wear or not. Now we must fight for those who preceeded us and see that they get the recognition so much deserved.
Mike Barton.
