MB wrote:Also dunnit...........and wonder if we could get Merdeka Day recognised in the UK as, "Hearts And Minds Day." In honour of another few. The phrase is bandied about often enough in these difficult times, but how many youngsters, and the not so young, know where it was coined and followed through not only to the letter but to a successful conclusion. Just a thought from an old fogie who was just three years old in 1940......but will always remember the debt he owes to THE FEW.

Thanks everyone so far.
Mike
You might be on to something there, why not start a petition?

Why not start a petition? John Cooper.
Don't know the first thing about doing it. I am a simple soul only just able to log on to this site and hope not to cock things up. However, wrote a snail-mail letter earlier to Mr Broon of Kirkaldy along the same lines, leaving out another petition while pointing oot the potential of using "Hearts And Minds" as a kind of educational example of how to show our involvement in a Muslim/christian way (for want of a better analogy) and demonstrate that WE are a shining example of how things once worked...and still do with regard to Malaysia. I also mentioned the PJM debacle in doing so. The letter will take until Christmas to get through, no doubt, but having Googled Mr Broon snail mail seemed the quickest and surest way. One can only try....and keep on doing so. My grandfather once told me that an old arab offered him this advice......"The soul of a man can never be happy travelling faster than a camel can trot." Small wonder I can't do computers.

The Few
Have just signed up.
Remembered my father who was very proud of his connection to Fighter Command - yes he was an Accountant Officer - well someone had to pay the "few".

Shelters
I remember the Anderson Shelter though I don't remember a Morrison Shelter although
Herbert Morrison was, I believe, Home Secretary at that time so it is possible.
