Gerry,

If I am reading this correctly, then permission has been granted by H.M. to receive and wear a medal to "celebrate" the Sultans "Special" day and yet when 519 lives were lost in the steaming jungles of the far east and many more injured, this is a less important event not worthy of the same honour???

Not only 'not worthy, Bob, but the wearing of the PJM would compromise the Oman baubel (according to the Cabinet Office).

You can insult a country without oil, but not a Sultan with it (or with the influence over it) - particularly if you may need his (now his country's) help to bail you out of a sticky Mid-East policy that is costing hundreds of lives each week.
