We have set up a new web page about the forts that were established in Malaya to defeat the Communist Terrorists.
"Forts" sound very defensive and safe. In actual fact fact they were anything but. They were forward bases, deep in the jungle and in the middle of CT controlled territory, that were at the forefront of the attack on the terrorists and one the main causesof their defeat. They only worked because they were where they were - in amongst the enemy.
Roy Follows led a Malay Police Platoon based in a fort called "Fort Brooke". We have started a page on the main web site which, as it evolves, will tell the story of Fort Brooke and the men who served there.
We are very privileged to be able to have this first hand account and, from the comfort of our safe and comfortable homes, to read about one of the dodgiest places to be during the Emergency. I worked with Malay Police several years later and they talked of these forts to me - in awe.
The story begins at http://www.fight4thepjm.org/memories_police_fort_brooke.htm.
