Post Not of voting age!
What many of these MP's and so called Civil Servants do not know (or care) is that some of us who were sent out to Malaysia were not even of voting age, 18.
I for one was only Seventeen and a half when I touched down on Malaysian soil. AND how many more were just like me?

My point is...my reckonable service date for a pension did not start until I turned 18!!
That means I got paid yes, but they got six months of my service life for which they will NEVER give me credit for!

Nor do they want me to be able to wear the ONLY medal I can get for that six months, given I might add by the Malaysian Government!

Nothing from the British government, who in their wisdom sent me out their under age, other than free Paludrine tablets and Whitfield Ointment for Dhobi rash!

Amazing eh!

Voting age was then 21.
I was 18 when I was posted to Malaysia, had my 21st one month before I returned home.

Yes I too was a mere 18 year old, one of my first 'jobs' was to be put on a Chinese Junk to escort it from Singapore Harbour to Seletar Pier, the Junk was full of bombs. We were given a .303 and ten rounds on two clips, the latter had to be kept in the two shirt pockets and on no account loaded until you were told to do so. I left The Far 4 months before my 21st birthday.

I celebrated my 21st at Tengah. A fortnight later I was posted to Kuching. Paul is right to say that at that time the voting age was 21, so the barstewards got their money's worth out of most of us. Most of those who now deny us our rights were probably sitting in a lecture hall in University at the age of 21 and the nearest they got to hostile action was campaigning for CND.
