Hey for a little while I thought you all had been rattling too many cages in Whitehall as the site has been off air, glad to see you are up and running again, phew!

Post Visitors.
Like everyone else I too thought the gremlins were caused by someone in government. Should I expect a visit from the suits. Oh well, the Bar L is at least warm and comfortable this cold weather and they supply three square meals a day, I am told. My only regret is that the salmon fishing season has just started but if I am not away too long I will not miss much as it is too cold to hang about a river just now.

Post Intelligence and Security
Being ex-intelligence and insecure I, too, am totally paranoid when it comes to the Wheezes and Dodges departments of the powers that be. But we are an open book, "warts 'n' all". However, even if 'they' were to take an interest in us, I don't think 'they' have the wit to understand one word of what our brilliant correspondents' are writing on our book's pages.

Having said that, and not being one to underestimate the enemy (whether Hacker by name or hacker by nature), I've given our Web Site and priceless Discussion Forum their own security survey. I won't go in to details (I don't understand them so I can't), but copies of our irreplacebale jottings are taken at irregular intervals during the day and copied to servers in London, in Manchester, and in Berkshire. So anybody acting with intent is, I hope, up a proverbial gum tree.

Email addresses are protected.

Down to earth ... What actually happened yesterday was that a tosser of a techie rebooted the primary web server. I got a message while in a meeting that "after the reboot the Forum element had gone AWOL". I had no option but to close things down only to discover on my return that that tosser of a techie had forgotten to check to see if the bit that runs the Discussion Forum had been restarted as well. It hadn't - which is why you could surf the main web site but could not access the Forum.

Sorry about that (err ... are you nodding off??)

But that day, despite the downtime, we had 224 visitors. That may seem good news for a fledgling site, but many of those visitors could have been first-time visitors ... and they are our future! My apologies to all.

Now I can definitely hear the snoring .... g'nite!

Barry
