That is brilliant. It will be interesting to see how thay can justify the Naval officer to wear the ASM whilst kicking us in the wotsits over the PJM.

Post Wow is right!
George.....you came up with an absolute beauty this time pal!...Mr Brennan is going to have to go to his Roget's Thesauras (unabridged version), in order to come up with words of sufficiently potent 'weasel factor', to answer those questions.

A simply BRILLIANT piece of work!

Kudos...

George 'Eagle Eyed' Fleming how the heck did you come across this one? Don't forget my mate who was able (and still is able to wear) the Sultan of Johores Coronation Medal with unrestricted permission from HM Queen. He at the time was a Senior Aircraftsman (SAC)

George....I have written to the three "officers and gentlmen" in question. They are so important that mere mortals like me are not even worthy of an acknowledgment.
Doesn't it make you feel proud to be British!!

John,

This is 100% proof Cdr Farringham's "Australian Service Medal" was an UNRESTRICTED foreign award. They cant get out of this one, I have them by the short and curlies.

Devil's Advocate here George.....

Just wondering....what if the officer has a letter from the FCO stating that the medal could be accepted, but only worn on FORMAL Occasions?

If as I think you mention, this naval officer was in Australia at the time that the photo was taken. Might he be judged to be at a Formal function?

If this is correct then I think that as a result of this msg, the NO might be receiving a back-dated letter shortly in the post?

You have a good point John, but .....

Furthermore I am not 100% sure the photograph was taken in Australia,

First point.
It was worth asking the question.

Second point.
If the photo was taken outside of Australia then it would add more weight to our argument...it would mean that the NO had unrestricted wearing rights.

When awarded to British citizens both the PJM medaL and the ASM are foreign commonwealth medals.

George, Have you noticed the recent change in nomenclature, used by HGM correspondents. From "foreign countries" to "non-British countries".

I wonder if they are putting ther collective heads together?

Here is the link which shows Cmdr Farringdon wearing his Australian Service medal at his Courts Martial for allowing his ship to go aground. One must now wonder if this is the tour where he qualified for the medal, if so, was the medal also awarded to the rest of his crew........and do they now wear it at Rememberance Day parades
